Nova Launcher – FREE / 4.99$

This app should stand on the top of this list. Nova has been around since the good old days. It remains not only relevant, but one of the best Android launcher app options available. It has a laundry list of customization features that include gesture support, the ability to customize the look and feel of the app, icon pack support, themes, and much, much more. The app also gets updated at a breakneck pace which means bugs generally get squished quickly and new features are added consistently. It also comes with the ability to backup and restore your home screen layouts for when you eventually switch to a new phone. It’s the one we’d recommend you try first.

Aviate Launcher, which Yahoo acquired and will soon shutdown, was one of a kind, offering context-based features, feeds, and organization. In its absence, EverythingMe has the chance to step up and step into Aviate’s shoes. EverythingMe actually isn’t completely new. It has, however, returned just last year after shutting down in 2015. EverythingMe offers a Prediction Bar that presents apps it thinks you will need, a Context Feed for recent photos and missed calls, and daily changing wallpaper, among other things. It’s not a complete stand-in for Aviate but it does come close.
